NAUTICAL "ARMILLARY" SPHERE

The armillary sphere, used in Greece in the 11th century BC, and in the 1st century BC in China, is a model of the celestial sphere depicting the motion of the stars around the Earth and the Sun. The name comes from the Latin armilla (circle, bracelet), being made up of a framework of graduated circles representing the equator, the eliptic and astronomical meridians and parallels.
